It may not seem like forward but every change is a stepping stone and my life is about to take a change of direction. That direction is back to Belfast full time, people have doubted my ability to leave New York (I even have). Honestly leaving here takes you to be stronger, than coming in the first place.
So, why am I leaving? Some of you may or may not know that I have a undergrad degree in Architecture, after graduating I made the crazy move (crazy because I had never even been here before) to the big city, where I fell in love, found myself and learnt that I had to grow up very fast.
Its been three years from when I graduated, which is funny because I always said that I wanted to take one year out (work placement) and get straight back into it, I knew i had the personality to get caught up in 1000 other things and never want to go back. Well, that’s exactly what happened, I would describe my life in New York like a treadmill; You have to start of slow and figure out how fast you can run, then learn how to run while balancing 10,000 things. Thats what happened me, after working an amazing work placement at Daniel Libeskind, I decided to stay and freelance as a designer, and say ‘YES’ to almost every opportunity. So many yes’s that I ended up on a Reality TV Show (only in New York).
Alot of people had no clue what I was doing with my life, let’s be honest do any of us. I have no regrets for taking out another year out, I learned a lot, travelled, achieved small stepping stones. Taking a different path, isn’t for everyone. However I can preach from my own personal experience, if you’re only doing your next move because, it’s whatever one else is doing or what everyone expects you todo. Take a moment, if your heart isn’t in it, be real with yourself. A year ago I wasnt ready to go back into masters, fast forward after being accepted a friend asked me how I felt and I replied ‘READY’.
